Microsoft PowerToys May Get A New Interface Soon

Microsoft PowerToys is set to receive a significant visual overhaul, according to a concept image shared by Niels Laute, a software engineer working on both PowerToys and the WinUI framework. The update, which is still under development, aims to modernize the interface with a design more aligned with Windows 11 aesthetics.

The early concept screenshot, published on PowerToys’ GitHub page, reveals a cleaner and more intuitive layout. It organizes various modules into a unified display while also introducing new functionalities expected to accompany the visual update. The design emphasizes clarity and ease of navigation for users managing multiple tools and features within the application.

One of the key improvements includes a comprehensive list of all available modules, each accompanied by quick-toggle buttons to enable or disable them efficiently. This allows users to activate or deactivate features without digging through nested menus. Additionally, each module now includes a dedicated button to access a detailed settings page, where users can configure individual preferences.

Another noteworthy feature is the inclusion of keyboard shortcut references directly on the homepage. This change is intended to help users memorize and utilize shortcuts more effectively, streamlining their workflow.

The screenshot also indicates the presence of quick-launch buttons for certain modules, allowing direct access to specific tools without additional steps. While these enhancements are well-received in concept, Microsoft has not provided a release timeline for the updated interface. It remains unclear when the new layout will be available in stable builds.

The redesigned interface was initially teased in December 2024 during a roadmap announcement, hinting at ongoing efforts to modernize and improve user experience across PowerToys.

In parallel, Microsoft continues to expand its creative tools portfolio, recently previewing its new video creation tool, which is expected to compete with Google’s Veo3.

As development progresses, PowerToys users can anticipate a more cohesive and user-friendly design, reflecting Microsoft’s broader efforts to align its utility tools with the visual language and functionality of Windows 11.
